Horwath calls for grants to help local businesses to catch up

SARNIA – Official Opposition Leader Andrea Horwath released the following statement:

“Most Ontarians have done the right thing by getting vaccinated to protect ourselves and our vulnerable neighbours. We all deserve to get back to safely doing the things we enjoy.

Small and local business owners have suffered during the pandemic. Doug Ford has consistently put the needs of his big fish buddies over the needs of the mom-and-pop operations. Small businesses won’t be able to catch up overnight. That’s why we’re calling for a broad round of small business grants to help them rebuild.

Doug Ford continues to embolden the anti-vax crowd with his loopholes and exemptions. We can make this reopening successful by fixing the loopholes in the vaccine certificate program, making it mandatory in more places, putting in place a solid verification system for medical exemptions, and getting a province-wide strategy ready now to vaccinate children five to 11 as soon as the vaccine is approved for them.

Today’s progress is thanks to the hard work and sacrifice of every Ontarian.”
